Barnby Dun Cricket Club - founded 1870 - an update!

The cricket club has had mixed fortunes this year, our First Team struggled in Division 1 of the Pontefract League, having gained promotion last year, our team could only win 4 games this year and finished 3 points short of safety, this was a good effort by all, losing the last game of the season.

However our Second Team gained promotion to Division 5, winning 13 games on the way, Lee McMhan’s side, a mix of youth and maturity have done really well and are looking forward to next year.

The new Sunday Team have finished in the top half of Division 3 of the Barnsley League, a very creditable return in our first year, they have been a credit to our club and taken Barnby Dun cricket to new pastures far and away.

This has to be the first year in which none of our junior sides have won anything, but hey ho, let’s not let the prize spoil the game; all our youngsters have continued to improve with their continuing participation in the sport. Developing cricket skills and life skills is very important, which needs determination and dedication from all players, these juniors are a credit to the community. Special thanks to all people, players .mums & dads, grannies & granddads, etc. etc. for your on going support

The cricket clubs Annual Presentation Night at The Glasshouse Pub on Friday 9th October starting at 7.00pm, everyone is welcome, £2.00 on the door

The night helps the club with fundraising and brings everyone together under one roof, if you would like to donate a raffle prize or even buy some raffle tickets, please ring 887281, thank you.

Let’s hope and pray that the Parish Council can deliver our long awaited changing rooms in the near future, for not only the cricket club to use, but other sporting groups who also use the grounds.

Thank you- Peter Fell.
